Getting down and gritty in Eldoret

Getting down and gritty in Eldoret

Out of the all the summits so far, there’s much to be said about Eldoret. Fam… if you had any confusion on what the word energy means, then you need to check out some of the clips from the #BYOBEldoret Summit. The gates were open from 9am and immediately the young and hungry BLAZERs flooded the field at Eldoret Sports Club.

It was a flurry of activity from the very beginning. It started with Spark Talks from the mentors in the various pods, which went on for until noon. During that same time, young investors and entrepreneurs were treated to Centonomy talks where they learned how to use their money better. Between that, the live recording by KTN’s Straight Up, the G.R.I.T shown by blazes at the obstacle race and Xbox Stations, the morning was LIT!

Summit 2

We went out of the norm this time and requested young performers to submit their videos if they wanted to curtain raise for the artists performing at the Eldoret Summit. It was up to the BLAZERs to decide who they wanted to curtain raise by liking the video of the artist they loved. The performances were GREAT, the aura was electric and the dance moves were out of this world.

The time came to reward the resilient BLAZERs who won in their respective pods. The ideas at the Creation Camp were powerful and smart, but, the judges were looking for something unique and daring. The following champions knocked the socks off our BLAZE mentors;

Pod Winner Business Idea
Agriculture Kennedy Nzuki Maize value addition
Creative Arts Phillis Wanja Charcoal Art Painting for Therapy
Fashion Eric Rotich Matching Undergarments for men [like lingerie]
Film & Photography Joy Mbithe Exceptional skills in executing business plan
Music Joseph Kariuki Business idea + Rap/freestyle Skill
Retail and Manufacturing Collins Rutto Monetized Gaming

summit 3

We all have different; struggles, goals, dreams, role models and paths. What brings us together is our mental space during the tough and the good times. As Nyashinski said during his spark talk, “It’s an easy path to mediocrity and you always miss every shot you don’t take. Be stronger in your mind than you seem. Be more successful in your mind than you currently are. Be a step ahead mentally”. Our BLAZE mentors didn’t shy away from sharing their rough path to where they are today and this made the youth realize that careers take off slowly, but surely. The instant life we lead today is the complete opposite of how your success unfolds. G.R.I.T, Patience and courage.

For those whose FOMO is real, check when we’ll be visiting your town at. Until next time, BLAZE!
