“As a kid, I remember seeing my mum iron out the clothes she was supposed to wear for the whole coming week and I knew that is not the kind of life that I wanted. I hated 8-5 before I even knew it was a thing. I’ve never been into routines,” says Sybril.
Fast-forward to 2018 and she is now one of the 12 contestants on this year’s G.R.I.T edition of the BYOB TV show. She runs an online magazine called Vangarde Afrika whose main purpose is to inform, inspire, empower and revolutionise the “African Artsphere”. Her efforts so far further cemented her position and place among other G.R.I.T.ty entrants when she auditioned at the Nairobi Summit.
This hardworking lady values integrity and abhors mediocrity, especially the deliberate kind. She believes in contagious energy and subscribes to the positive-vibes-only school of thought which has brought her to her greatest heights yet. She was raised in Nairobi by her parents and lived a relatively quiet life with her four siblings.
G.R.I.T is equated to never giving up, stamina and “The Game Continues” which puts the show’s competitive nature right up her alley. She refused to go be the lady who got an 8-5 job and showed this by independently starting something big and scary like an online magazine business and winning her spot on the show.
If she wins the show, she plans on expanding her business to a full-blown media enterprise as well as a network of creators including artists from all over the world. This is all in a drive to improve standards within the industry and help other creators like herself get further in art.
